One Month To Go

We are so excited to be bringing "Bearing Witness" to Manhattan.
At this time 86 bears are ready to help educate the public and call attention to the children that are still incarcerated at our southern border.

It seems with all the news that is happening, the public dialogue about these children has faded.
It is most important to keep them in the conversation and to continue to fight for them to be reunited with their families.

Meanwhile the bears are moving right along.

15 Bears and Counting

The roaring of the sewing machine is ever present as we settle in to making all the clothes and dressing the bears.

The four bears in the photograph represent the 4 "Caravan Countries" - Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras.

 There are so many different sizes and styles, so each clothing element is unique to each bear. The bears have taken on their own personalities. Will be hard seeing them go.

More Concentration Camps

It seems that daily there is further news of more privately owned prisons opening.

I am glad to see that protests are finally happening on a grand scale to call attention to these crimes against humanity. Often there are no words left to scream that haven't already been screamed.

At this time the 100 bears have arrived. We are beginning to construct the clothing for each out of the 100 flags.

The ID tags have been printed and numbered as to keep track of each bear during and, hopefully, after the show in October.

As construction of the clothing and completion of each bear is realized, I will post updated photos.

Until then do whatever you can to aide in stopping the atrocities against these helpless children.

                            

  Bearing Witness Update

                                      

Many of the supplies, tags, zip ties, flags from 4 countries, are starting to arrive. It is all very exciting. The rubber stamp for the ID tag has been ordered as each tag will be stamped with the blogsite and the individual Bear number then zip tied around each bear's ankle.  

I am starting to look for and order bears of more varied colors and sizes.

During each day of the festival, there will be a map showing where each bear is located along 14th Street. Something that the US government cannot seem to grasp.

Currently there are 8 completed bears. It is interesting watching Melindo fashion the flags from the 4 countries into clothing for each bear while keeping the dominant image of each flag visible.

Images are being sent to New York tonight for the Artist's Meeting. Awaiting input from that meeting. We are already having separation anxiety from the thoughts of letting them go. Imagine if they were real children.

"Bearing Witness"

"Bearing Witness" is a collaboration between Terry S. Hardy and Hermelindo Rabanales for "Art in Odd Places 2019: INVISIBLE".

The work is centered around 100 teddy bears. 

Dressed in the flags of 4 Central American "Caravan" countries - Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, these bears call attention to the missing and lost children that were separated from their families at the southern border. These children are now being held and relocated throughout the USA.

The show is set for October 17-20 on 14th Street in Manhattan.

El trabajo se centra alrededor de 100 ositos de peluche.

Vestidos con las banderas de 4 países centroamericanos de "caravanas": Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador y Nicaragua, estos osos llaman la atención sobre los niños desaparecidos y perdidos que fueron separados de sus familias en la frontera sur. Estos niños ahora están retenidos y reubicados en todo Estados Unidos.

El espectáculo está programado para el 17 y 20 de octubre en la calle 14 en Manhattan.
