Remembering the children

Today I came across this bear sitting on a barrel at one of the job sites.

I was immediately transported back to NYC and seeing all the bears on 14th Street waiting to be rescued.

Always remember the children at the border.
Inspired by....

Was sent a wonderful article from LuLu LoLo last week regarding an installation calling attention to the horrible fires burning in Australia.

I can't help but feel it might have been inspired from the "100 Witnesses" on 14th Street in October.

Never forget the children at the border.

Time flies for some of us

...the children are still separated from their families.

It has been a month since the first bear was placed along 14th Street.

Daily, it seems the news cycle has forgotten about these children amid the constant barrage of scandal and corruption.

We must never forget just how wrong the situation is regarding these children as they continue to be abused both mentally and physically.

As we enter Thanksgiving, remember the children that we so mercilessly have inflicted harm upon while erasing their histories and afflicting their futures.

One Week Later

It is hard to believe that it has already been a week since the closing of AiOP/Invisible/2019 on 14th Street and the placing of the 100 Witnesses.

It was truly important for the bears to go out into the world and generate conversation regarding the children that are still being held at the border.

We know many of you have contacted Art in Odd Places regarding what to do next with the bears.

If you would like, please take a photo of the bear and post it here on the blog. It would be great to hear from you if you did find one of the 100 bears or have a story regarding them. You can also post on the Art in Odd Places email and they will forward the information to us.

We are deeply grateful for this opportunity. It is vital to keep these children in the conversation as news changes daily and their situations do not.

Exciting day  on 14th Street

(Final bear locations map)

Was a busy day on 14th Street as the festival entered Day 3.

Prior to distributing the next round of bears, we walked the southside of 14th to check on the bears that had already been placed. It seems they have all found homes.

We did come across some of the bears and their new families.

Please visit 14th Street tomorrow before all the bears are gone and always
Remember the Children at the border.

Day Two on 14th Street

The interest continues to grow as we continue to let these bears generate dialogue and interest regarding the children incarcerated at the border.

(current locations)

Many questions have been asked and conversations overheard along the 2 mile stretch.

We have now placed half the bears and will continue tomorrow beginning at 10th Avenue heading East.

Please continue to visit the blog as this project unfolds.

As always....Remember the Children.

Always remember the children incarcerated at the border.

"Bearing Witness"

"Bearing Witness" is a collaboration between Terry S. Hardy and Hermelindo Rabanales for "Art in Odd Places 2019: INVISIBLE".

The work is centered around 100 teddy bears.

Dressed in the flags of 4 Central American "Caravan" countries - Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, these bears call attention to the missing and lost children that were separated from their families at the southern border. These children are now being held and relocated throughout the USA.

The show is set for October 17-20 on 14th Street in Manhattan.

Revisit this blog for updates, information, and images as the project develops.
